The Origins of Moneypenny - Irish Notes - Scottish Notes - Comments Form

Thomas Moneypenny, Laird of Kinkell, Fife, Scotland, applied for and was granted 1,000 acres in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland by James I during the Ulster Plantation.  Title was granted in 1610.  Thomas sold his interests in 1625 and returned to Scotland.

Four of Thomas's nephews, all brothers, followed their uncle to Ireland.  They were James, Arthur, Henry and Andrew.  It is believed that all Moneypenny's in Ireland, and thus all in the United States,  descend from these four brothers.
